In 2017 Bill Suys was elected to the Board of Directors of Oil Painters of America and was awarded Signature Status by the Portrait Society of America. Suys was a Judge for Fine Art Views’ Boldbrush Art Competition, and Awards Jury Panelist for California Plein Air Painters’ Fall Online Showcase.  Mr. Suys participated in Door County Plein Air Festival Invitational, En Plein Air Texas in San Angelo, TX and the Olmsted Plein Air Invitational in Atlanta, GA. He demonstrated animal painting techniques for the artists and participated in the Maynard Dixon Country Campout invitational, Mt. Carmel, Utah. In Spring 2018 Bill will participate in the Forgotten Coast En Plein Air invitational. In January 2018 Suys taught a week-long class at Scottsdale Artists’ School; in spring 2018 he will be an instructor at Plein Air South.

Additional Awards Bill won during 2017 include: Finalist – Animal Category of the 12th International Art Renewal Center ARC Salon; Second Place – Animals and another award in the Portraiture Paint-Off in the 2017 Oil Painters of America National Juried Exhibition; First Place in the Richeson Animals, Birds & Wildlife competition 2017; Second Place in the Richeson International Still Life and Floral Exhibition; Finalist – Portraits, in the Portrait Society of America Members Only competition, as well as being juried into the Oil Painters of America Eastern Regional Exhibition.

Publications:  Mr. Suys was featured in “Hit the Professional Trail Running” by Stephen Doherty in Plein Air Magazine, April 2017, and has been featured in Fine Art Connoisseur, Southwest Art, American Art Collector among others.
